One year ago, the Sarfaroshi Foundation launched a campaign and demanded free treatment and free medicines from the Shamli district government in every village. Because when people from 64 villages get together to sign on a campaign, anything and everything is possible. A year ago, Dangrol village participated enthusiastically in this campaign. We held camps across 6 villages, when the third wave of the pandemic struck. This was followed by state elections and the harvest of wheat and sugarcane which prevented us from holding more free health camps. By now, people in Dangrol were wondering of their campaign was going to come to nought.
But in the end, the wait was definitely worth it. One year on, Sarfaroshi’s community leader and Dangrol village President Sunita still kept the faith and that trust paid off. Sunita formed a team with her husband Pushpendra and many associates – Poonam, Manju, Rashmi and Kumari Dimple, Rohan, Akshay, Sagar and Sunny. Finally, a health camp was organized in Dangrol on the 28th of July 2022. 268 people were treated for free by a team of four doctors and the laboratory staff from the private hospital called Global Shanti Care. There was a general physician, a gynaecologist, a dentist and an orthopaedic specialist. Free diagnostics for some basics like blood sugar and blood pressure and the blood count was also done.
We are a fraternity at Sarfaroshi and our health camps are the greatest exemplar of this fact. When a camp is held in one village, the Sarfaroshi community leaders there are not alone. Presidents and associates from other villages arrive on D day in solidarity and to pitch in at the registration counter and very chaotic medicine counter. At the Dangrol camp, to boost Sunita’s morale, there was the Kandhla block president Sudha, associate from Nala – Mukesh, Alka from Bhabhisa, Kuldeep and Sumit from Lissad, Adesh from Makhmoolpur, Sama from Sunna and Kusum from Hurmanjpur.
