About Us

The extraordinary must contain the ordinary. Revolutionary be equal part evolutionary. Sarfaroshi is the practical magic we need to erase differences and build a world of people that learn to live with each other. Building such a fraternity is tough but we believe it’s possible. It’s also essential.

When we build solidarities sans caste, sans religion, it’s easier to fight for our rights.

It’s easier to ask the government for what is duly ours when we stand together as a collective.

It’s easier to file a complaint with the police.

Where we normally find doors shut in our faces, they’re wrenched open because of the power of many, of a people speaking together.

This collective is what Sarfaroshi is about. It’s what we build, it’s who we are.

Equity and equality are words enshrined in the preamble of our constitution but on ground, they’re the hardest to achieve. Believing is everything and it requires a revolutionary spirit.

We derive our strength from the spark that was ignited by India’s revolutionary fighters, like Bhagat Singh. The young fire-brand gave up his life at the age of 23 because he believed in an India where all religions, castes, differences could be erased. We don’t need to give up our lives but we could use a heavy dose of inspiration from Sarfaroshis like him.

How does the Sarfaroshi Foundation run?

We are a non-profit organisation based in the north Indian district of Shamli in Uttar Pradesh. This is a tough district, where discrimination and fear are the norm and as a consequence people are very far away from being able to fight for their rights. It’s also a world full of hope and people that are hungry for change.

We are enabled in our work by the faith of the people of Shamli and of course by funders – both institutional as well as individuals who donate to us. We are registered as a section 8 company under the Companies Act of 2013, with the id U85300UP2022NPL161852.
